CIEE Advanced Liberal Arts Program in Barcelona, Spain
Take advantage of your advanced Spanish language skills by exploring advanced topics in international relations, literature, and more, alongside Spanish classmates in this cosmopolitan city. Both edgy and traditional, lively Barcelona offers endless sites and experiences – each a new opportunity to enhance fluency and interact with city dwellers. A variety of outings and trips beyond the city make your understanding of this diverse region complete – and unforgettable.
Study abroad in Barcelona and you'll:
- See and hear new perspectives with private museum tours and lectures from guest speakers on a range of advanced topics.
- Lean on your CIEE Guardian Angel, a Spanish peer ready to help you settle into your new life and meet friends at University of Barcelona.
- Bite into Barcelona culture with small-group cooking lessons, tours, and flamenco night.
- Gain valuable experience and put your talents to good use with an internship. You might update a website for the Centre for Discourse Studies or man the Language Lab at the Centro de Autoaprendizaje de Lenguas at UB.
Geared for independent students with advanced Spanish language skills, this program gives students flexibility to choose Universitat de Barcelona (UB) classes in a wide range of topics with Spanish students, or take CIEE courses with CIEE students. All students first take one of two Spanish language courses to prepare them for their work at UB.
During the first week of the program, students meet individually with our Resident Director to select their UB courses.
CIEE courses are taught at our Study Center in adjoining historic buildings near the city’s main square. UB classes are held at University Plaza – a short walk from the CIEE Study Center – or in Pedralbes in the northwest part of the city, a 20-minute metro ride from our Study Center.
CIEE courses are taught by faculty from the Universitat de Barcelona and other higher education institutions in the city.
Please check the CIEE website for final program dates, and speak with your CIEE Study Abroad Advisor prior to booking airfare.
