Program Overview

The main aim of the programme is for students to gain knowledge and hands-on experience of forensic science practice and the criminal justice system in Scotland. The three week programme is run by staff/faculty at Glasgow Caledonian University in partnership with experts and institutions of the Scottish Criminal Justice System. The programme includes: Lecturer series on aspects of forensic science and criminal justice in Scotland; Hand-on laboratory experience in fingerprinting, drug analysis and hair & fibre characterisation; Academic field trips to Courts, Prison, Police Force and Fire Investigation Unit; and Cultural programme including visits to a Scottish Castle, whisky distillery and more.

The programme also includes three assessments to be completed during the time at GCU relating to laboratory practicals. The programme is equivalent to 3 US/Can/5 ECTS/10 SCQF credits which we hope will be accepted by your institution and form part of the core or elective component of the degree programme of the student.  Students will be fully enrolled into the university and receive a transcript on completion of the programme.
