What Does it Cost to Study Abroad?
The costs of studying abroad will vary according to term abroad and destination. Cost estimates are provided in the program section of the website, but the following serves as a guideline to understanding the costs of studying abroad.

Students studying abroad for a semester:
  • Students who study abroad during a semester will be charged the regular University of Scranton semester tuition. Most forms of financial aid and scholarships you receive during a typical semester will also be applied to your semester abroad. For current tuition and semester fee totals, please see the University of Scranton catalog at: University of Scranton Tuition and Fees.
  • Students will be charged the normal University semester fee and a study abroad application fee of $125.
  • Students will incur costs of room, meals, books, transportation, passport, student visa/study permit (if required) and personal expenses. The totals for these costs will vary according to study abroad location.
  • Note that the University of Scranton includes a comprehensive health and emergency evacuation insurance policy to every student studying abroad at no additional cost.
Students studying abroad for an intersession or a summer session:
  • Tuition varies by program. Typically, financial aid and scholarships that you receive during Fall and Spring semesters at the University will not apply to short-term study abroad programs.
  • Students studying abroad for short terms will be charged a non-refundable application fee of $125.
  • In addition to the University of Scranton charges, students will incur the following costs: tuition (which varies according to study destination), room, meals, books, transportation, student visa/study permit (if required) and personal expenses.
  • Note that the University of Scranton includes a comprehensive health and emergency evacuation insurance policy to every student studying abroad at no additional cost.

Study Abroad Invoicing
The University of Scranton will invoice students for the following costs: tuition, room, board and fees. It should be noted that many study abroad programs do not have meal plans and in such instances students will not be charged for meals. Additionally, in rare instances, housing bills must be paid directly to the housing providers by the student (because the provider will not invoice the University).

Please note that unless otherwise specified, the University of Scranton will not arrange or bill for transportation and/or for student visas/study permits.

Financial Aid for Study Abroad
University students participating in the Study Abroad Program may be eligible to receive financial aid, including federal, state and institutional aid, for their enrollment in a program that is approved by the University. There are several additional requirements, however, that must be met before the Financial Aid Office can process any student’s financial aid for use at another institution. Please contact the Financial Aid office for more information.
